Sir,

Hongkong, 23rd January, 1904.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 456 of the 18th ultimo, from the enclosure to which I observe with pleasure that Mr. Ford is engaged in editing and supplementing Mr. Bentham's work on the Flora of Hongkong. In this connection I may mention that much useful and original botanical work has, I understand, also been done by Mr. Tutcher, Assistant Superintendent, and it is reported to me that he has generously offered to furnish Mr. Ford with the records which he has himself collected both before and since Mr. Ford's retirement.

2.

These and others will be communicated to Mr. Ford and every assistance will be rendered in the production of the much desired work upon which Mr. Ford is engaged.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Amay

Officer Administering the Government.
